NUMBER #17 - Jessica

I experienced abuse throughout my childhood.
Beating, slaps on the head, punishment in the dark... Without access to care, I learned to survive early on.

At the age of 17, I had my first generalised epileptic seizure at the playground. My parents did not believe me, so I could not be followed.
At the age of 19, I fled after new incidents of violence. All my life I had to fight alone, against work, illness and fear.

Over time, the attacks became more severe. In 2018, I was rushed to hospital, and in 2020, I was declared disabled.
In 2022, a bout in the shower marked a turning point. That's when I was finally recognised for long-term illness (ALD) due to "grand mal" epilepsy.

Today I am sharing my story because I want people to understand:
👉 Doctors and neurologists need to listen and act.
Epilepsy is a serious disease and we need dignified and humane follow-up.

I am Jessica. I'm epileptic. And I keep fighting.
